Chapel-To-Auditorium ... Moving Forward

Back to Blog

Background

Our Phase 4 construction plan included a chapel for the purpose of holding Masses, graduations and other large school events.  The chapel building has a capacity nearly twice that of the dining/multipurpose hall; this larger capacity is much needed as our school enrollment continues to increase. This building is now under construction and was planned to be completed later this year.

New Information

Fr. Julius recently learned that having a chapel at a primary school is not customary or commonplace. To clarify this matter, he then met with the Archbishop to provide an update on the school and specifically to review the plans for a chapel. The Archbishop confirmed that chapels are only permitted at seminaries, convents, and universities; they are not permitted at primary schools.

Moving Forward

After review by Fr. Julius and the BHIKU Board of Directors, and consistent with the direction of the Archbishop, we decided to continue construction of the building, with the same end purposes as originally planned. Since it will not be an official chapel, it will be renamed as St. Francis of Assisi Auditorium.
